Ian writes: It was a frosty start as I cycled over glistening roads out of Fen Ditton on my way to rendezvous with those awaiting patiently at Brookside. As well as regulars Angela T, Liz and Rachel, Tom H, Mick and Averil were making the most of a fine sunny morning and a special welcome to Anne, last occasion a guest rider but now fully paid up member thus making eight in total.
Formalities completed we were soon underway along Trumpington Rd to join Long Road prior to passing through the Addenbrookes site using the new cyclepath link, in due course to arrive at Worts Causeway. The hill passing The Beechwoods beckoned, always a bit daunting but today less of a struggle with no passenger! After a brief stop by the start of the Roman Road it was time to now enjoy the longish drop down to Fulbourn not to mention the fine views around.
It was then the usual pleasant flat route through the Wilbrahams to Bottisham where we headed directly to Lode for seasonal mince pies or cranberry scones and without any wait.
Around midday it was time to investigate the new cyclepath immediately opposite the pedestrian and cyclist access to the site for a direct link to Stow-cum-Quy, highly recommended as of ample width, smooth surface and away from the at times busy road. Passing through the village still left a bit to be desired but perhaps one day some improvements to link with the road to Quy Mill might happen. NCN 51 was then followed through the park and ride site and across Ditton Meadows to Riverside where in due course we all headed our individual ways having completed at least 20 miles.
